Many people consider buying new tires to be a very stressful
experience. That is not necessarily true if you know what you
are doing. But how do you know that you need new tires? How do
you maintain them?

The first thing you need to look for when checking your tires is
if they have holes in them. You have to know that if you have
punctures in your tires they might be fixable. You should see if
the puncture is more than quarter inch deep and if it is that
means that you need new tires. Beware of mechanics who will try
to separate you from your money by saying that your tires need
to be replaced. Always check your tires for yourself first.

We all know that tires wear out. There is a term “bald tires”
which means that your tires can’t provide good traction anymore
because they have worn out already. They are called “bald tires”
because there is not enough tread on them and they look “bald”.
What you should understand is that driving with “bald tires” is
dangerous and you can’t feel safe in your vehicle. Pay some
attention to that problem and change your tires as soon as
possible.

If you need new tires you should choose the right type of tires
(Danish word is dæk ).
There are a lot of different tires but choose carefully. For
example all-season tires are good for normal weather conditions.
Summer tires (in Swedish they are called sommardäck ) are perfect for hot summer days and dry roads because they have better friction with the
road. Winter tires are what you should go with in the winter
season especially if there is some heavy snow in your area. They
are also good for driving on ice. Don’t forget that you should
buy a full set of 4 tires when buying tires because replacing
only 1 or 2 of your tires is dangerous and is a big safety issue.

Now that you have bought the right tires for your car you should
take proper care of them to make them last longer. One of the
most important things for your car safety is your tire. Always
check if your tire pressure is what it is supposed to be. That
will prevent the tire to blow out and also will prevent your
money leaving your wallet for new tires. You shouldn’t put more
weight on your car than it can handle because that pressure is
on the tires as well. Also check your tires frequently to see if
they are any cuts or holes and if they need replacing. Don’t
save money from new tires because they are important for your
car safety as well as for your own.
