Owning A New Convertible
Here is Your Chance to Own a New Convertible
By Joel Simkhai
Picture yourself behind the wheel of a brand new sports car. Now try to imagine yourself in that same car but let's make it a convertible and
take the top off.
The sun is shining and the wind is blowing through your hair as you race down an empty highway. Pretty nice, isn't it?
Now that you've seen yourself driving that convertible, what is stopping you from actually buying one? The answer should be nothing. It's
spring and now is the time to invest in that new car, in that new convertible car!
There are more convertible cars being manufactured than ever before and each one differentiates itself from the other. It seems every one of
the big companies offers a convertible model for each of their car lines. It can be a confusing and daunting task finding which features might be
best for you, so we're going to help out a little. Here is a look at some of the new models for 2007 of popular convertibles available and a breakdown of each by the respected experts at Car and Driver Magazine:
* Chevrolet Corvette - It's about as American as you can find next to maybe apple pie. This car has been a
classic for decades and it's still made with these high standards in mind. Some of its high points are a 400-hp V-8, tenacious cornering grip,
surprising luggage space, and a flex-free chassis. Low Points: Excessive body motions, occasionally balky shifter, push-button doors, power top
should be standard at this price.
* Ford Mustang - There aren't many cars that eschew the alluring character of the Mustang. It's best
described in one word - "beautiful". The looks are undeniably nostalgic, and in V-8 GT form, it's got the growling muscle-car soundtrack of a
bygone era. High Points: The new trim packages and colors, auxiliary input added to the radio, and optional navigation system complement the
Mustang's strong V-8 and a good ride-and-handling balance. Low Points: There is very little to complain about so if we must we think of one thing
wrong it's that it sometimes exhibits some cowl shake over bumps and the back seats are too small for adults.
* Chrysler PT Cruiser - It's been labeled as a four-seat sunshine scooper with cuteness to spare. The
'40s-era fenders, high beltline, and color-keyed body-stiffening hoop look fabulous. Highs: Looks great top up or down, comfortable inside with
room for bags, and optional turbo adds some zoom. Lows: It can be rather expensive with options, and the body jiggles over rough pavement. (my
ex-girlfriend had that same problem).
